The search for Canada’s top shoeaholic is about to begin…
Stars across the country lined up Monday, April 27 for the 36th annual Film Society of London Center Gala Tribute, where Tom Hanks was presented with the new ‘Chaplin Award’ by the beautiful Julia Roberts. Tom Hanks was honored for his work in “Forrest Gump” and “Philadelphia”.
Celebs including Charlize Theron, Christie Turlington and Rita Wilson caught the eyes of the red carpet fashion gurus, and were spotted in designer dresses from the Pre-Fall 2009 collections, and simple, elegant shoes and sandals; Charlize Theron strutted her stuff in a pair of eye-catching silver ankle-wrap sandals and finished her ensemble with an elegant black clutch.
Julia Roberts made a rare fashion move by choosing an all-white sheath dress, paired with a pair of black square toe heels.
Red Carpet Trends in Shoes
Many stars are sporting the looks from the Pre-Fall 2009 runway, which means we won’t be seeing these famous labels in our closets any time soon. But, if you’re dying to get your hands on the shoes you saw on the red carpet this week, you can find a few comparable pieces online:
A close match to Charlize Theron’s strappy ankle-hugging sandals are these Calvin Klein Nevada sandals, a sinfully rich silver pair of metallic sandals with large, octagon shapes across the toe strap to catch the light. They’re a sleek and sexy pair that are perfect for any evening soiree or gala:

If it’s Julia Roberts’ black square toe heels you’re after, try on a pair of these J.Renee Annette pumps. They’re a little more dressy than the pair Roberts was wearing on gala night because of the large crystal rhinestone jewel:

They’re a great match for any ‘Little Black Dress’ you’re sporting for the evening, or to dress up a plain skirt or pair of dressy capris. Match them up with a gunmetal silver or pewter handbag, and you’ll be pulling off your own red carpet look.
Red Carpet Trends in Handbags
For bags, the hottest looks for the season are the oversized patent leather or croc-embossed clutch. The bigger the better, and stick with the black if you want to sport this look for the long-term.
This Kooba Mandy clutch is a great match for day and evening ensembles, an oversized wallet-inspired clutch made with shiny textured leather:
This Alexander McQueen Clutch is very similar in style and shape to the one Rita Wilson was holding at the awards ceremony. You can get yours in a light brown color for a more versatile piece, and it’s a super sleek embossed patent leather accessory that will match up with most evening ensembles.
This season is all about peaches, caramels, and beiges; yep, it’s ALL about the nude hues!
Flesh toned nudes were featured all throughout the Spring/Summer 09 runways, courtesy of the likes of Nina Ricci, Lanvin and Phillip Lim, to name but a few.

Of course, this look will always look fabulous on the catwalk because, let’s face it, what DOESN’T look good on the catwalk?! But what we want to know is how we can make it work for us…
The naked truth is that the new nudes trend is not easy to master; but, if done correctly, the look is one of chic high fashion and sophistication.
According to Vogue UK: ‘As a broad rule, the choice of which neutral to wear is in inverse proportion to your skin tone; paler skins suit darker neutrals in cinnamon and coffee, while darker complexions can wear more buttery colours’.
If you’re thinking of trying out the new nudes style, then take a leaf out of actress Diane Kruger’s book and choose an outfit with textured fabrics; this avoids the appearance of having a second skin. Bleugh.

Peeping out beneath Diane’s dress, as pictured at the Cesar awards, is a pair of gorgeous strappy platform heels in a deep toffee colour. The look is a testament to the fact that when going for the buff trend, don’t be afraid to mix up tones.

Luckily for us, this trend has gone beyond the catwalk and has been snapped up by our favourite stores so we mere mortals can have a chance to look fabulous in flesh.
If you’re dubious of going all out in the nude look then why not subtlety introduce it to your wardrobe, feet first! Put your best foot forward in a pair of nude Ashlee Pump courts by Restricted.

‘This classic and chic little number is a must for every girl’s closet…It doesn’t get any more timeless than this.’
These heels would look fabulous teamed with a shift dress and would even look fabulous popped on over a pair of tights.
L.A.M.B. was also quick to jump on the bandwagon and provides a delicious offering of straps galore with the Tizzy shoe.

‘…with a golden zipper at the ankle and a 4 ¼ inch self-covered stiletto heel, this fierce statement-maker is sure to make to the envy of every girl.’
So go on, dare to bare and brave the new nudes trend!

Black and white leather is one of the hottest trends of the season, and an open-toe platform sandal is definitely one of the best ways to sport the look. Drew Barrymore did just that last week as she headed to the “Inside Grey Gardens” panel discussion last week to promote the premiere on HBO. She arrived in a beautiful one-shoulder seafoam green dress and a pair of show-stopping Giuseppe Zanotti laceup sandals, a pair of sassy – but classy – platforms that boast a 5” heel and a glossy patent leather finish:
These are the perfect yin and yang-inspired pair for any Spring or summer soiree. You can sport them with a draping gown a la Ms. Barrymore, or wear them with a tight-fitting minidress or wide-leg capris to add a masculine touch.
Be sure to pair these with either a hot white clutch or oversized patent leather wallet for the complete ensemble.
This isn’t the first time Drew Barrymore has turned to Giuseppe Zanotti for some support on the red carpet. The 34-year-old actress is reveling in her Old Hollywood style with Giuseppe Zanotti cutout sandals and pumps to round out her sophisticated and chic look. For her recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, Ms. Barrymore decked herself out in a figure-flattering black dress with giant, billowing sleeves, and finished it up with a pair of very-chic black and tan colored Giuseppe Zanotti pumps.
Giuseppe Zanotti has become the ‘celebrity shoe maker of choice’ according to supermodel Natalia Vodianova, who interviewed with handbag.com earlier this year. The designer has been in the limelight since the 1980s, but has most recently become a crowd favorite when celebs started to wear the designer’s shoes for awards parties and other red carpet events.
The black and white platforms Drew Barrymore wore for the “Grey Gardens” event are a more trendy and edgy look for the starlet who’s been slowly turning to more classic Hollywood-inspired ensembles this season. Still, she managed to pull it off as a balancing piece for the bold, green dress she picked for the evening. Grey Gardens is an HBO film that premiered on April 18, 2009 and stars Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore as the lead characters.
Is it wrong to covet the style of a bunch of vampires?
Of course the said vampires aren’t REALLY blood sucking vamps; they’re the actors of film Twilight, who are currently filming the sequel to the film, based on the books by Stephanie Meyer, New Moon.
It is near impossible not to crave the wardrobes of the young stars of the film; they’re all drop-dead gorgeous, and have wardrobes to match!
Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed have all had us wishing that we could be them; or have their wardrobes anyway! Clearly part of the urban, hip crowd, the Twilight cast seem to live by the mantra that they are just too cool for school.
The girls are forever being papped in outfits that have me green with envy. Always tending to go for the laid back look where they’d be more at ease in some Converse or biker boots, the girls know how to turn it round and glam it up for premieres.
These girls make up a new elite of young talent, and all seem to have a fashion sense that screams ‘I know how to look fabulous without even having to try’. Sigh.
It seems that in the States Lady Gaga has been knocking around for a while, but across the pond in Britain, she has only just made it big. And boy, has she made it big!
It’s not even so much for her catchy tunes of Just Dance and Poker Face (catchy is possibly an understatement, I think that infectious is probably more fitting) but for her out of this world dress sense!
Now, in what respect you interpret the term ‘out of this world’ is up for debate.
At the very least you gotta give the Lady credit for having balls of steel; not many of us would dare be seen in some of the outfits Lady G steps out in! Forever a fan of anything outrageous, she never ceases to amaze us with her creations.
Personally, my favourite would have to be the kooky concoction that the New Yorker stepped out in yesterday in London.
In an all white tailored dress (seemingly reserved for the eccentric 23 year old) she didn’t disappoint with her accessorizing. It was namely her lipstick, applied to make her look like somewhat of a geisha, and her matching themed Chinese style cup and saucer. Of course, no girl is without a pair of shades, big hat, statement earrings and … a cup and saucer. Maybe not.
Proving that she hasn’t just got a face for the radio, Lady Gaga had dressed up in the fancy-dress like attire for a radio appearance with UK national radio station, BBC Radio 1.
I can’t help but find Lady Gaga to be quite charming with her eccentric, wild outfits, but at the same time, I can help but wonder ‘What on earth is going through that girl’s head when she get’s dressed in the morning?!’
Love it or loathe it? Hmmmm….for me, the jury is out….
What do you think of her style? Do you love it or loathe it?

‘Behind every good man is a great woman’
Ok, so this story may have been somewhat flogged to death; but how could we possibly not write a little something about the wardrobe of America’s leading lady?!
Personally, I have a sneaky suspicion that Michelle may have some kind of personal crusade to bring back the cardigan. She’s clearly a massive fan and you’d be hard pressed to find an occasion when she’s NOT in a bold coloured cardy. Hell, she even wore a black one to meet the Queen of England!
However, it’s not just the cardigan that seems to be a staple of her wardrobe, as she will more often than not team them with a tailored skirt and waist belt. In doing so, she successfully manages to merge the lines between businesswoman and housewife. Mrs Obama is a clear testament to the notion that ‘If it ‘aint broke, don’t fix it!’
Unlike her predecessors, this fashion savvy first lady has found herself the muse of many a designer. Take, for example, Elie Tahari who, for his A/W line, has created the “Michelle” dress. The said dress is a one-shoulder cocktail dress in a vibrant orange and purple print.
A look at her wardrobe, brief as this may be, would not be complete without a quick mention of her shoes. Ever the practical dresser, Obama is seldom viewed in anything but a low court. There is a particular pair of tempting green Jimmy Choo pumps that she often steps out in but I, for one, can’t help but be a little disappointed that she doesn’t step out in something a little more mouthwatering, like a Louis Vuiton killer heel. Having said that, I must give credit where it’s due; the poor woman does have to stand on her feet for hours on end, meeting and greeting with her husband (you may have heard of him, his name is Barrack…)
What are your thoughts on Michelle’s fashion sense? Do you love it or loathe it? Check out the new forum’s on MizzTissa’s shoe blog and join in the discussion!
Today marks the grand opening of the MizzTissa forum. It’s brand new, and light on conversation so far, but I hope you’ll check it out so we can talk shop and possibly offer each other group support for the shoe addiction many of us share.
Some of you know of your shoe addiction, or you wouldn’t be here. Like I’ve heard (not sure by who), denial isn’t a river in Egypt. Take that first step and I’ll see you there. Together, we can make a difference….
That was laid on kinda thick, wasn’t it?
Some of you might recall my shoe obsession post a while back, but I never really got into the whole shoe closet issue. This post might be overdue.

Mariah Carey Shoe Closet

Saving the best for last – Miss Mariah’s shoe closet is the stuff dreams are made of. It’s not only larger than some people’s apartments, it also has what looks to be every shoe you should want. This is more of a room than a closet, and home to over 1,000 pairs of shoes. OK, no one has every shoe I could want. Some of them haven’t even been made yet, but I know I’ll want the next pair from Laboutin, Zanotti, Choo or Blahnik.
More of Mariah’s closet…

You would think Mariah Carey is the queen of shoe closets with a setup like that. It just so happens that Celine Dione is said to have 3 times more shoes than Mariah!

Although there don’t seem to be any pictures of Celine Dion’s closet, we can only imagine.
And one other closet we have yet to see (And know it would be fabulous, look how much she shops. Deserves an award she does!) is none other than Victoria Beckham’s. And it must be really something, as it’s said she spent over $600,000 on it. Can you can imagine ? But I bet she gets a lot of designer freebies.
But of all of the shoe closets I’ve actually seen, I still like the one in Sex and the City best!

If you haven’t picked up a pair of Spring sandals, it might be time to put an end to your procrastination and pick something. I know all too well that once you start looking and see so many thing you want, it’s like you’re paralzyed and can’t make your mind up. So I thought what better way to help than by providing a snazzy short list.
All of these are fairly affordable at around $100. And it’s like your way of helping the economy. I know I try to contribute when I can! My closet will back me up on that. You might notice these are all platform heels, my new obsession for the season. Time to stock up on nail polish too! If you haven’t tried Opi, its really good.

This first pair is called Teema and its from Fergie’s new line of shoes. Not only will if give you a lift in height and confidence, I think they’re just cool.

Next we have a hot sandal from Guess called Karoke of all things. While they don’t actually sing, they look good just the same. They actually look kinda comfortable too. I liked the heel on this one.

Here’s a strappy sandal from Bronx that would look great with jeans. They all would, but a strappy brown sandal is a must have. It features crisscrossing straps up to the adjustable ankle strap and suede covered midsole.

And these last ones are called from Angel from BCBGirls look like you could wear all day and go out in the evening with them too. They have a glossy black snakeskin upper and will make anything you wear with it look great.
