If there is one thing in the world I love more than a pair of knee high boots, it would be a pair of ankle boots. Ankle boots were kind of my signature for a while, and although I don’t wear them as much now, I still have a special admiration for them.

I recently went looking again and found too many I liked and it began to make my head spin. I managed to short list it and this is only some of what I came up with.

Nine West Unival

A side zip with leather upper and a good sturdy heel. I liked this one for its ruggedness. I could probably wear this one for several hours before crying out “Taxi!”. Priced at about $109 at time of sighting makes them even more appealing.

Ralph Lauren Gemini

These sleek and sexy boots are perfect for day or evening, and near the top of my list. These would look great when dresing either casual and semi formal. Also very appealing at about $120.

Christin Michaels Jocelyn

This sexy bootie has a low cutt cuff and a side zipper. I love the heel on this one and think its would wear well if you dress up or dress down. Priced at about $150 its still not too hard on the pocketbook.

The first snowfall has arrived for some of us, and its time to put away the open toed shoes. The air is crisp, and you’re winter wardrobe is finally getting some attention, but it lacks one thing. That pair of boots that make you walk with a sense of purpose, hold your head high, and turn heads.

We found just the thing from BCBGirls, and not only is it reasonably priced at $140*, it’s perfect for that new job or starting the week on a high note.

We also found this pair of Guess boots in dark chestnut with dual zippers that also has elasticized calf vents for comfort and fit. With a half inch platform and a four inch heel, it could easily become your new favorite pair of knee high boots, and priced at about $200* makes them a steal!

It’s no secret that shoes make women feel pretty. The right shoes make us feel so gorgeous inside that we’re willing to overlook a pinched pinky toe or have our ankles rubbed the wrong way. Like a snowflake, each shoe in our coveted closet is a unique expression of our self. Each pair communicates our different aspects. When a woman owns fifteen pairs of black shoes, she is simply communicating herself fifteen different ways.

What men forget is that women have to feel good about ourselves first for us to want to give anything to a man. Sex included. Our fifteen pairs of black shoes that make us feel good fifteen different ways, is in fact doing the heavy lifting for men. Instead of cursing them, men should thank our shoes. Our shoes compliment us when men forget to. They make us feel beautiful when men are too busy to notice our new haircut or outfit. In the feel good department of life, our shoes pick up the slack where men drop the ball. If men want more room in the closet, they might want to start complimenting us more so our fifteen pairs of black shoes don’t have to.

Although the colder weather is here, it does give us an opportunity to wear gorgeous boots. From oxfords and ankle foots to the knee high boots, I love them all. It’s great to have a change of season, as it also means a seasonal change of wardrobe. And let’s face, another excuse to buy more shoes.

I’m in the mood for something a little more adventurous, and thought these might be the way to go.

I’ve never owned a pair of boots that rock, but if I did they would look like this. Most of mine are knee high no nonsense leather boots. These would look great with jeans, with special thanks to Giuseppe Zanotti!

It’s getting close to Christmas, and I’ll have to get myself something.

When you think about high heel fashions and the women that wear them, who are the ones that come to your mind as the trendsetters?

This is a roundup of what I thought might be some of them, but feel free to comment if you disagree (or agree) or feel someone has been missed.

At the top of the list, we thought Victoria Beckham made the most sense. She’s probably been featured in this blog more than any other celebrity, although Gwyneth Paltrow was giving her a run for the money during the release of the Iron Man movie.

Next we have Miss Mariah Carey (AKA Mimi), who is no stranger to being a diva, and will even be the first to tell you so. She also has what is probably the most famous shoe closet (Posh - that’s how you can get more media! Build a shoe closet to outdo Mariah’s!) and wearing high heels just about everywhere.

What do her and Victoria Beckham have in common besides their love affair for shoes? They both wore heels to throw out the first ball when invited to a baseball game.

Then there is Carrie Bradshaw, who’s played by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City TV series and movie. Carrie may have single handedly made Manolo Blahnik’s a household name across America, and showed women everywhere that it’s ok to obsess about shoes. While her character had her own style, it was her love for shoes and her Manhattan salary that let us live vicariously through her, at least while shopping .

I had an opportunity to speak with Anna from ShoeSmitten Boutique to chat about shoes. It turns out she’s as big a shoe-a-holic as I, so naturally my first question was…

How did you become a Shoe-a-holic?

I’ve always admired beautiful shoes, but only recently did I resolve to delve into learning more about shoe fashion. I find great joy in accessorizing my outfits with my shoes. But even though I could recognize a beautiful shoe, I had no knowledge of the story behind that beautiful shoe. So I set out to learn everything about shoes, from the history of each style to the current trends and designers.

We share a similar story, being we both love shoes and started a site about it. How has your site changed your life?

I spend more time now than ever researching shoe designers, and fashion in general, and I love how I’m always learning new things. Shoe Smitten has opened my eyes to the possibilities available on the Web, for both personal and professional growth. I began the blog as a way to teach myself about my passion - shoes - and it quickly grew into something more - a place for other shoe lovers to come and share their opinions and advice.

If money were no object, what is your favorite pair of high heels?

I don’t really have one favorite pair, but I love Angelo Anastasio’s shoes, and would die for a pair of his Angeleigh Anastasio ‘Nereida’ sandals. I’ve also been eying this gorgeous pair of purple ankle boots by Sergio Rossi for quite some time.

With sky high stilettos and heel-less heels, what do you think are trends and what might catch on?

I believe that heel-less heels are simply a trend, as well as the fringe frenzy. I’m not a huge fan of either, in terms of wearability. I do, however, appreciate the architecture of the heel-less heel and I appreciate it as art. Now sky high stilettos, bold colors, embellishments and interesting textures are here to stay.

Trend Report for this coming season: In one word - BOLD! Shoes are becoming more and more interesting, with added details, cutout patterns and unusual heels. The biggest trend for this fall is women’s footwear, I would say, is the shootie. This is a must-have shoe!

Do you have any shoe fashion rules to share? Kind of like “no white after labor day”, but with regards to shoes.

1. Never wear running shoes with jeans! In fact, they should only be worn when you’re actually planning to exercise and are wearing sweatpants or shorts.

2. Don’t wear hose with sandals (flat or high heeled)!

3. Don’t bleed for shoes, no matter how beautiful! All the shoes I own are comfortable enough to stand in for at least an hour, and I buy gel inserts to make uncomfortable shoes more comfortable. It’s just not worth it to be cringing in agony and walking funny just to show off a gorgeous pair of 6″ Manolos.

4. I see a lot of college girls wearing their jeans not-so-neatly tucked into Ugg boots. I think Ugg boots are cute, but only when worn with super-skinny jeans or leggings. You need that skin-tight, chic look to offset the chunky boots.

Do you have any funny shoe fashion mishaps you can share?

One day, a few years ago, I was super-late to work so I got dressed and left the house in 5 minutes. As soon as I stepped out of the car at my office, I realized that I was wearing two different shoes - a black pump and a dark purple one! I just laughed it off and joked that I was trying to start a new trend…yeah, that didn’t catch on!
