Buying the Right Shoe - and the Left too!

It’s said that something like 50% of women wear shoes that aren’t fitting properly. Have you ever been in a shoe shop and found a pair you’ve fallen in love with which were a little tight? Isn’t it always at that point that the sales person will suggest the shoes will stretch.

“It’s ok, go ahead and buy them. They’ll fit after they’ve stretched.”

Suuuuure. Now I used to believe this for a long time, but after half a closet of unwearable heels, I started to think otherwise. If it doesn’t fit properly in the store, it isn’t likely to fit later either.

While it’s true that you can stretch the leather, it is fairly limited just how much you can.

Take it from me. Just be sure to buy a shoe that fits properly. And the next time a sales person says its ok to buy the shoes because they’ll strech and fit your foot eventually (or something like that) you should look them square in the eye and say;

“You know, if I were looking for items to stretch into, I’d be shopping for stockings.”

Spring in your Step

Posted by MizzTissa in fashion, shopping

With Spring finally here, you’re probably wondering what the new trends to look for are. After months of keeping their feet covered, women everywhere are happy to see the warmer weather as it’s an opportunity to reveal, not conceal, starting with your feet. Now might be a good time to buy stock in nail polish as its likely to go up at this time.

You’ll notice shoe designers have added add various shiny baubles and trinkets to their spring shoes. Styles like platforms, gladiator sandals, flats, and mid heels look to be the rage.

For colors, expect to see bright color combinations, and lots of yellow.

Although you’ll see less sky high heels, you’ll still see what we like to call fashion statement shoes. You’ll know them when you see them. Platforms with odd cut out styles, risque heels, and possibly even a sexy wedge or two. but it looks like gladiator sandals could be the must have item.

News of the Shoes

Posted by MizzTissa in news

Shoe news from around the Web..

After 5 years of R&D, Skins is born. The idea for the shoes is that customers buy one set of “bones” (made-to-measure insoles) to be interchanged with a variety of soft, collapsible “skins” (uppers and outer soles) to create several stylish looks on one comfortable base.

A man has been charged with workers compensation fraud, after being spotted running a 40-yard dash in women’s clothing and high heels — at a time he had claimed he was too injured to work.  The man had collected more than $5,000 in workers compensation after he reported a work-related injury in June. He’s accused of taking part in a radio station’s contest for Hannah Montana concert tickets last year. Not only did he have to dress in drag, but he had to carry an egg on a spoon.

And finally, footwear seems to be having its runway moment, and some are even blaming Louboutin for the runaway prices. But if one brand prices itself at a premium, is the industry to follow and then point the finger to that one individual?

How to Wear Killer High Heels

Posted by MizzTissa in sexy, fashion, shoes

They make you look taller, your legs more slender, and even make you more sexy. But if you don’t know how to wear a pair of killer sexy shoes, you’re probably going for a tumble sooner than later.

First and most important, make sure it fits. Shop assistants will tell you the shoe will stretch, but if they don’t fit in the shop then don’t buy them.

Keep an eye out for shoes with straps, which tend to provide extra support.

Choosing the heel of your shoes wisely is very important. While a half inch heel will be more comfortable, you might as well flats or sneakers. Go big or go home! Platforms and wedges are great because they look higher than they actually are. And for balance, the thicker the heel the better.

But for a truly killer sexy shoe, we need to look at least a 4 inch heel to start. If you’re not used to a heel this high you’ll want to get something to practice in, like a 3 inch, until you’re ready. Training your heel and arch is a progressive thing.

And although they’re a favorite with many women, avoid pointy shoes. The pressure they put on your toes can cause ingrown toenails and irreversible nail-bed damage.

And the most important tip of all?

Wear your Killer High Heels either all day or all night, but never both. If you plan to wear a killer heel in the evening, go with something sensible throughout the day. It doesn’t have to be a flat, but should be under three inches.

I know some women will wear a 3 or 4 inch heel all day, then go out for an evening as well in the same shoes. It’s said that feet should be stretched as much as possible, which is why you need to give them a break sometimes. Wearing heels is like standing on your toes and extending your foots arch. Your feet will thank you if you wear your killer high heels selectively.

Are Shoes Now Hotter Than Handbags?

Posted by MizzTissa in news, fashion

A couple of interesting articles appeared in the UK’s Guardian and Telegraph newspapers are suggesting that shoes are now the “it” item. It’s about time!!

In the past, it has been about the handbag, but at long last shoes are getting the attention they deserve.

Even men tend to notice when a woman is wearing a nice pair of high heels, but you never hear a (straight) man say “nice purse” or something like that.

It is also being predicted that women will soon be investing in fewer but more expensive shoes, which sounds good because women aren’t doing themselves any favors shopping at places like Payless.

UK Department store Harvey Nichols reports a 15 per cent rise in shoe sales this season and a higher demand for catwalk heels - the kind models wear in fashion shows - more than the tamer (shorter) ‘kitten’ heels.

Jimmy Choo Mondrian Heel

Posted by MizzTissa in fashion

Introducing the new Mondrian Heel by Jimmy Choo.

It’s a thicker heel, but still in a stiletto or spike style.

In the right color combinations, or in a single color, these look great!

I think there’s a trend coming (what? It’s already here?!?) of seeing all kind of unique designs with heels.

I’m looking forward to see how this will influence other shoe designs this spring.

These look like they would be a little easier to walk in too.

I’m going to give these a try soon!

12 Days til Sex and the City

Posted by MizzTissa in celebrity, entertainment

This was going to be a 12 Days till Sex and the City, but it started out lame with no where to go.

But I found something interesting instead - Win Tickets to Sex and the City Premiere!

Charlotte of Sex and the City (Kristin Davis) is auctioning off two tickets for charity to the highly anticipated film’s debut - and it gets better!

The winner (highest bidder) will arrive at the star-studded event in a chauffeured-driven car after getting the glamour treatment at Manhattan’s Prive Salon. The winner will also have the opportunity to have a meet with Kristin one on one and walk the red carpet like the film’s other stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon.

All of the proceeds go to benefit OxFam America programs.

The auction ends at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 so hurry up. Visit http://www.ebay.com/oxfam

There is also an auction for a brand-new pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, that will be delivered with a personal note from Kristin.

Update - The winning bid was a whopping $52,100! Yes, that’s dollars!

It’s interesting to look at the bidding, especially on the last day where it went from 20k to the final bid.
