Million Dollar Shoes Rejected

Posted by MizzTissa in shoes

Designer Stuart Weitzman had chosen the oscar nominated writer of Juno to wear his million dollar “Retro Rose” shoes which feature two Kwiat diamond roses attached to a pair of 1940’s T-strap metallic heels. Miss Cody, on the other hand, rejected the heels in favor of simple gold flats . More than 1,800 Kwiat diamonds weighing 100 carats were used to make the roses, and 400 of them have been incorporated into the design of the shoe, which is worth over $1 million.

At first, I was confused by this, and wondered who in their right mind turns down a pair of million dollar shoes.

From Cody’s blog; “I must have somehow missed the part where my shoes cost a MILLION [bleeping] DOLLARS and my ‘choice’ of footwear would be publicized nationwide. I honestly thought they were just sparkly shoes.” And “I’m actually really pissed about this, now that I think about it. They’re using me to publicize their stupid shoes and NOBODY ASKED ME. I would never consent to a lame publicity stunt at a time when I already want to hide. I’m sorry if I sound like a party-pooper, but Jeebus.”

 The Shoes…

To which Mr. Weitzman responded:

“I have been making a special pair of shoes to be worn at the Academy Awards for a number of years. This year – more so than in any previous year – the lady who was given the opportunity to wear it was quite involved in the design process. Diablo Cody sent me examples of the type of shoes she liked and actually did the final selection herself, choosing a three-inch retro style T-strap as well as a changeover pair of ballerinas. She chose to adorn the shoes with medium-sized diamond roses from three different sizes offered to her. Why she seems to be so surprised as to the attention being paid to her and these shoes, I cannot answer.”

Not sure if I agree, but I admire her standing for something she believes in.

Who Needs Friends and Enemies, When you can have Frienemies!

Posted by Lisa in life

Okay, we as part of the “lady” population are well aware of typical female antics.  Women can be brutal, rude and all around untrustworthy on a plethora of different levels.   And when you think you’ve brought your relationship to a level that one only sees in the movies, you might just soon realize that the “ship” portion of your friend-”ship” has “sunk”.

When women go out in a group of 2 or more, maybe to a restaurant or out for drinks, there’s always a point where just two of them are together, usually heading for the ladies room (as girls simply cannot go by themselves).  At this point in time, the female couple will in fact say something negative about at least one of those remaining at the origination point.  It could be something as superficial as the lipstick shade chosen for the occasion, maybe the shoes are a bit loud, or the hairstyle of one looks like something Johnny Depp would have worn in his latest movie collaboration with Tim Burton.  Anyways, there’s always at least one female that’s “singled” out for some fashion fopar or style mishap.  But one can all but guarantee that the conversation (or at least a comment) of the positive fashion was the topic for a bit earlier in the evening.

So why is it that women do these sorts of things?  Why do they say something nice to your face and then turn around and stab you in the back for it?  I think the culprit lies deep within us all…it’s the “little green monster” known as jealousy.

Growing up in the 1980’s, my mom always told me that kids were mean and said hurtful things because they were jealous, and being that they were young, they don’t really have the vocabulary to get their point across without something sounding vicious.  They make fun because they don’t understand.  They hurt when they don’t know what else to do.  I think this is true, for the most part, and continues as we grown up to become “women”.

So what are our options when dealing with these “Frienemies?” We can confront them by calling them at their wit, causing a colossal scene in which we will find ourselves in again and again, just from a different perspective.  Or, we can blow it off.  I myself choose the latter, for a big blowout catfight isn’t my idea of “working things out”.  I save those types of battles for special occasions.  I’d much rather kill them with kindness and let the guilt get to them than give them a black eye and end up with a court record.

Anyways, the way I see it, “Frienemies” can be traced back thousands of years. For example, just about every woman in history gained her notch on the social ladder by being one.  Let’s take the Old Testament of the Bible.  Eve was all-sweet when God was around, but as soon as The Almighty turned around to see how everything else He created was doing, Eve went and plucked an apple off of the forbidden tree.  Everybody talked about Mary Magdeline behind her back (or at least when the disciples were taking notes), but probably complimented her hair and robe to her face. And I’m sure that everybody really believed that Mary was a Virgin to her face, too, and probably ripped apart the fact that she gave birth to Christ in a manger.  I can hear them now: “Can you believe that she had that baby outside in a manger?  What was she thinking? Some people really let themselves go when they’re pregnant!”

In closing, if you think you’ve got a good group of friends, good for you and let it be known that such a group is rare, not in the realm of guys, but within the female populous. Men accept everything that their man-friends are, and don’t try to change them. Females are your friend until you wear an ugly pair of pumps out for the evening or have a bad hair day.

Nokia N96

Posted by MizzTissa in gadget

I love the new Nokia N96. I’ve been thinking of a new cellphone for a while and may have found it. The Nokia N96 has the look of Nokia N81, and the features of the Nokia N95!

The Nokia N96 has a 2.8? 16m colour TFT, QVGA (240×320 pixel) resolution screen, 16GB of internal memory, and it support for high-quality videos in a wide range of formats, including MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video.

It’s also has a bunch of crazy features like a TV tuner and able to hold up to something like 40 hours of video content. It includes the 5 megapixel camera packing Carl Zeiss optics with flash and an integrated A-GPS, lets users ‘geotag’ their pictures with location info and share them online. Sweet!

Update 02-27-2008: I got the E61i instead. :P

Yes We Can

Posted by MizzTissa in life

I’m not a supporter of Obama (I live in Canada but I’m still interested) but I thought this is such a great video to share if you haven’t seen it.

Will.i.am, who coordinated the Yes We Can video teamed with director Jesse Dylan (son of Bob Dylan), and former members of the Grateful Dead, are all lending a hand.

Some of the people in the video include Scarlett Johansson, Herbie Hancock, Nicole Scherzinger, John Legend, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Kelly Hu, Tatyana Ali, Nick Cannon, and almost 40 other actors, celebrities and athletes.

I think just as moving are the words from Will (of Black Eyed Peas fame)

The Yes We Can Song
by will.i.am

I was sitting in my recording studio watching the debates…
Torn between the candidates

I was never really big on politics…
and actually I’m still not big on politics…
but 4 years ago, me and the black eyed peas supported Kerry…
And we supported Kerry with all our might…
We performed and performed and performed for the DNC…
doing all we could do to get the youth involved…

The outcome of the last 2 elections has saddened me…
on how unfair, backwards, upside down, unbalanced, untruthful,
corrupt, and just simply, how wrong the world and “politics” are…

So this year i wanted to get involved and do all i could early…

And i found myself torn…
because this time it’s not that simple…
our choices aren’t as clear as the last elections …
last time it was so obvious…
Bush and war
vs
no Bush and no war…

But this time it’s not that simple…
and there are a lot of people that are torn just like i am…

So for awhile I put it off and i was going to wait until it was decided for me…

And then came New Hampshire…

And i was captivated…

Inspired…

I reflected on my life…
and the blessings I have…
and the people who fought for me to have these rights and blessings…

and I’m not talking about a “black thing”
I’m talking about a “human thing” me as a “person”
an American…

That speech made me think of Martin Luther King…
Kennedy…
and Lincoln…
and all the others that have fought for what we have today…

what America is “supposed” to be…

freedom…
equality…
and truth…

and thats not what we have today…
we think we are free…
but in reality terror and fear controls our decisions…

this is not the America that our pioneers and leaders fought and
died for…

and then there was New Hampshire

it was that speech…
like many great speeches…
that one moved me…
because words and ideas are powerful…

It made me think…
and realize that today we have “very few” leaders…
maybe none…

but that speech…

it inspired me…
it inspired me to look inside myself and outwards towards the world…
it inspired me to want to change myself to better the world…
and take a “leap” towards change…
and hope that others become inspired to do the same…
change themselves..
change their greed…
change their fears…
and if we “change that”
“then hey”..
we got something right…???…

1 week later after the speech settled in me…
I began making this song…
I came up with the idea to turn his speech into a song…
because that speech effected and touched my inner core like nothing in a very long time…

it spoke to me…

because words and ideas are powerful…

I just wanted to add a melody to those words…
I wanted the inspiration that was bubbling inside me to take over…

so i let it..

I wasn’t afraid to stand for something…
to stand for “change”…
I wasn’t afraid of “fear”…
it was pure inspiration…

so I called my friends…
and they called their friends…
in a matter of 2 days…
We made the song and video…

Usually this process would take months…
a bunch of record company people figuring out strategies and release dates…
interviews…
all that stuff…
but this time i took it in my own hands…
so i called my friends sarah pantera, mike jurkovac, fred goldring, and jesse dylan to help make it happen…
and they called their friends..
and we did it together in 48 hours…
and instead of putting it in the hands of profit we put it in the hands of inspiration…

then we put it on the net for the world to feel…

When you are truly inspired..
magic happens…
incredible things happen…
love happens..
(and with that combination)

“love, and inspiration”

change happens…

“change for the better”
Inspiration breeds change…

“Positive change”…

no one on this planet is truly experienced to handle the obstacles we face today…
Terror, fear, lies, agendas, politics, money, all the above…
It’s all scary…

Martin Luther King didn’t have experience to lead…
Kennedy didn’t have experience to lead…
Susan B. Anthony…
Nelson Mandela…
Rosa Parks…
Gandhi…
Anne Frank…
and everyone else who has had a hand in molding the freedoms we have and take for granted today…

no one truly has experience to deal with the world today…

they just need “desire, strength, courage ability, and passion” to change…
and to stand for something even when people say it’s not possible…

America would not be here “today” if we didn’t stand and fight for
change “yesterday”…
Everything we have as a “people” is because of the “people” who fought for
change…
and whoever is the President has to realize we have a lot of changing to do

I’m not trying to convince people to see things how i do…
I produced this song to share my new found inspiration and how I’ve been moved…
I hope this song will make you feel…
love…
and think…
and be inspired just like the speech inspired me…

that’s all…

Let’s all come together like America is supposed to…
Like Japan did after Hiroshima…

that was less than 65 years ago…
and look at Japan now…

they did it together…
they did it…

“We can’t?…

Are you serious..?..

WE CAN!!!

Yes we can…
A United “America”
Democrats, Republicans and Independents together…
Building a new America

We can do it…
“TOGETHER”

Sexy High Heels

Posted by MizzTissa in different

I mean sex and high heels, and how a doctor came to the conclusion that wearing high heels can actually improve a woman’s sex life.

Doctor Maria Cerruto set out to prove that high heels were not as bad for women’s health as some suggest, and has found that women who held their foot at a 15 degree angle to the ground – the equivalent of a two inch heel – had as good posture as those who wore flat shoes.

But wait, it gets even more interesting. She also states that this angle of the foot while wearing high heels also says 2-inch high heels can improve sexual performance.

‘‘Heels work the pelvic muscles and reduce the need to exercise them. Wearing heels during daily activity may reduce the need for the pelvic floor exercises necessary to keep that part of a woman’s anatomy toned and elastic,’’ Cerruto said.
The pelvic floor muscles are crucial for a women: they are involved in sexual performance and satisfaction (including orgasm), delivering at the same time an essential support to the pelvic organs, from bladder to bowels and uterus. But their capacity can be negatively affected by pregnancy and childbirth, and also by the aging. There are exercises that are to strengthen these muscles, but who cares about them when the heel solution would be much more pleasant?

While there is no evidence that even higher heels will provide even further pleasure, it has been noted that the opposite sex approves and it has helped in many cases for a woman’s “conquest”.

LipStick Jungle versus Cashmere Mafia

Posted by MizzTissa in entertainment

 Lipstick Jungle

The new show LipStick Jungle which premiers February 7, 2008 on NBC looks promising. It’s based on three high powered women and their ups and downs.

Cashmere Mafia

Over on ABC we have Cashmere Mafia, which is based on four ambitious women that try to balance demanding careers with their complex personal lives. This one sounds a little more like Sex in the City. Oddly enough, the show Lipstick Jungle has a writer from Sex in the City.

How to Pick the Perfect Pair of Shoes – For Valentine’s Day!

Posted by Lisa in shopping

Pumps and platforms, boots and baby flats- it’s such a decision to pick the perfect shoes for your special Valentine’s Day.  You’ve spent days, even weeks, shopping for the perfect ensemble, right down to the earring in the third piercing in your left ear.  But what are you planning on for footwear?  Have you given this any thought?  Probably not as much as you should have, so we’ve scoured the Internet searching for any and all details that might help you make the best overall decision.  So here’s some food for thought:

#1.  Temperature and Climate: If you live in the “Great White North”, your ideal shoes for Valentine’s Day probably won’t be a strappy sandal with a 5” heel.  On the flip side, if you reside in Florida or Southern Cali, black leather over-the-knee boots might be a bit warm for the occasion.  Remember to check the weather forecast for the evening before you head out, too…and have a back-up pair of shoes just in case!

#2. Where are you going? If your date wants to climb a mountain, you don’t want to wear brand new pink pumps.  If your perfect evening includes a romantic stroll along the boardwalk, the boards will be pretty long if you’re in a 4” heel.  Taking your shoes off at the beach is one thing, but it’s something completely different if it’s wet, cold, or even muddy/snowy if you’re in excruciating pain (even though the freezing, icy snow on your feet will take away the pain…)

#3. What are you doing?  This can coincide with our #2, but it can differ enough to need it’s own special number.  But, if you’re going on a surprise date for Valentine’s, you might want to ask a general wardrobe question like the very simple, “What should I wear?”  If you get a response that’s similar to “dress nice”, you might want to bring an oversized purse with you to tuck away an extra pair of shoes just in case.

If you decide to go with flats for your feet, keep in mind that “flat” doesn’t necessarily mean ‘unfabulous”. There are colossal varieties of patterns available in this style of shoe that you just can’t get away with as easily in a heel.  Vibrant patterns coupled with outrageous patterns add a nice accent to a relatively simple ensemble.  One caveat on this subject- don’t be caught wearing an outrageous pair of ballet flats with an “over the top” top…or even worse…skirt or pair of pants!  While the unconventional pair of shoes will look fabulous, clashing can become a serious issue if you’re overdone.  Keep the overall tone low to pull these babies off!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
